“Grace Tastes National Success”Over the weekend of 6th-8th of August, one of Falcon’s young bowlers, Grace Hopkins (front row, second from the left), played for the Essex U31 girls team at Royal Leamington Spa in the Amy Rose Bowl competition and came back a National Champion! The team consisted of two rinks playing against other counties from around England, with the winners of each match being decided by overall shot score. In a tense first game Essex scrapped through by one shot against a resilient Cumbria side, by picking up five shots on the last end! Full of confidence the team never looked back, winning comfortably through the successive rounds, beating the favourites Devon in the quarter-finals, and last years winners Yorkshire in the final.
The team spirit on show, and brilliant performances from everyone across the five matches played, really was impressive and a great advert for youth participation in lawn bowls. We hope for a successful title defence next season! If you are interested in taking up bowls; or have a
son, daughter or grandchild that wants to give it a try, please get
in touch. At the Falcon Bowling Club we offer free coaching for anyone
